Tea Towel Reminders of Very Happy Trails
On one of my personal days out, where I abandon all thoughts of housework and drudgery and take myself off for a tour around a garden or historic house, I was struck recnetly by the absolute beauty of the garden I was wandering around. There were the big herbaceous borders of course, with the usual display of heady peonies and roses, lots of spring show were just coming to an end. The planting scheme had been exsquisitly worked out some years before by one of the doyenees of gardening the English Country style – Nancy Lancaster. Her influence is everywhere to be seen in this place. So much so, that even in the tea room and gift shop, there are very pretty tea towels, crockery sets, dinnerware and towels all with her influence. I have now taken buying a piece of linen, say a tea towel, on each of these little trips out – more useful to me than a book mark.
